Peer Support on Campus
Historically, the mental health system, and the conversation surrounding it, has given more value to the expert opinions of providers and clinicians than the experiences of those living with mental health conditions. For well over a decade now, the Hogg Foundation bas been elevating the visibility of mental health consumers and has thrown its full weight behind the peer support and recovery movement. But right at The University of Texas at Austin, there has been the full flowering of a peer support consumer specifically for students. Called Longhorn SHARE, it was launched in 2022 with the support of the University's Counseling and Mental Health Center. In this episode we talk to Adrian La...

The Future of Recovery
Просмотров 622 месяца назад
Mental health care and recovery services have historically prioritized a clinical medical model. Under this model, expertise resided almost exclusively in the hands of professionally trained healthcare providers. Beginning in the 1960s and 70s, however, a recovery model emerged that put greater emphasis on the self-determination of “consumers” of mental health services and the expertise of indi...

If it is true that theft is evil, wrong and criminal, then how can a normal human being of sound mind say or prove that a theft of one dollar is morally excusable but NOT a theft of fifty million dollars? If we apply the same reasoning to physical force, then how can a normal human being of sound mind say that a (fierce but occasional) slap on the face or bottom is (perhaps) justifiable physical force but NOT caning or spanking someone two hundred times? A theft of one dollar is just as sinful, execrable and reprehensible as a theft of a trillion dollars and the same logic applies to VIOLENCE!! Only idiots and monsters love violence! I always feel angry that corporal punishment of children by parents or caregivers fails to get as much attention or condemnation as men’s physical abuse of women or women’s narcissistic abuse of men. This is indeed an immense shame, because it is very likely that adult abusers learn to be abusive from their seniors when growing up. Read the poem entitled “Children Learn What They Live” by Dorothy Nolte.

Hmmm.. I remember, when I was growing up, getting ready to do something stupid and then stopping because I knew I'd get my ass whooped if my mom or dad found out. I've never been in trouble with the law, I only get depressed around that time of the month , and I thank God that my parents "spanked" me every time I see kids acting a fool while their parents walk behind them asking them to stop- FOR THE 20TH TIME.

North Texas State Hospital killed our son last year, he shouldn't have even been there. He was placed in 4 point restraints and left to die. The state hospitals are monitored by other state agencies and they are all protected by Abbott, the lives lost and those abused have been ignored and forgotten as if they weren't even human, it's so unbelievable that today you can see the same disregard for human rights as we did 100 years ago. This is supposed to be a time where we value all humans and we ensure equality but these people are still thrown away. We spoke with our son daily, multiple times and attempted to be totally involved in his care, it was expected that he would return home yet this is where we are.

I was spanked, it was always a last resort for my parents. They always made me understand why. At max, I got 1 to 3 depending on what I did. Like when I cheated on a test, or stole from my classmate. I deserved it, and I know that. It never harmed me, and I don't have any "mental illness".

I had to pull my pants down and lay over my couch. I was beat with a leather belt. If I flinched or began crying afterward, then the beating would continue until I stopped. I was absolutely terrified of my father. I lived in constant fear when he was around. Most beatings, I didn't even know what I had done wrong. This sort of thing has ever lasting effects on a child's brain development. Don't beat your children.

Why go that great length to conceal the identity of your wife and children. Jenny Arquero went after you, and you completely failed, but you don't have to continue to lie about mental health about, your state of being, about your $ thievings from the banks just to be super wealthy while the rest of Americans suffer dire pain. Burn and kill hospitals; otherwise we'll have the ordinary, working class Americans get you brain surgery to ease your suffering of mental illness and addiction. I was there in the state of MA in 2017 & 2018, and who did you call? Gamal Mubarak to say there is fake Irene Imanil in MA. Fuck you! You did that? And what was the gossip relayed to Russia?
